I was looking for some samples of books about bullies for middle schoolers and came across your blog, in such a round about way-I love your style of writing, brought tears to my eyes (my unscientific method of quality control, along with the well-accepted 'chill check' for goosebumps on my arm), plus the photography, oh my God, it is so what I see myself doing!

Just glad I found you, but still looking for my middle school bully info-I am a volunteer in Atlanta, GA for a program called Hands Are Not for Hitting, run out the county court/office of domestic violence. I am a puppeteer and have seen the positive effect this program has had for children, both with dealing with bullies at school and at home.

My opinion is that MIDDLE School is where the real damage is done, and I am looking for resources to develop an interactive program aimed at this group.
Any suggestions welcome!

Thank you for your Heart & Passion for kids, and bringing that to us. I wish all could read your work, and be touched to DO something besides tear up.
Janna in Atlanta

To : Trevor,

Trevor, Your letter to your Dad really had an impact on me! The first time I read it I felt a tear run down the side of my cheek. I thought about the father and son relationship I never had and it made me sad and made me feel good at the same time. I thought “this is what it should be like with all fathers and sons”.

I have never had a father and am writing an inspirational book (trying to)... I have a pretty neat littel story to tell and I wanted you to know you hae inspired me greatly!!!
I was shot in the back at 18 yrs old and have become a wonderful person now at age 39! I hope this mesage finds you Trevor!

Best regards,
Doug Bratton

www.k9takeout.com
402-490-5009

I just bought An Illustrated Life, and I had to look you up after reading the piece you wrote.I was hoping to be able to ask you about how you started out with your drawing/sketchbooks...I'm just starting (I used to draw YEARS ago, not good, but I enjoyed it-now I'm 38 and picking up my pencil again and following an old dream) and I get frustrated at times, especially when I spend time online and compare my work with all these great artists I see-I wish I had started this journey at 18 instead of 38, but it helps to read things like your interview in An Illustrated Life. I hope if you get a chance you will visit my blog, and I thank you for the inspiration. (your page about the little girl Renee, it made me cry)
take care and have a good weekend
Trish

Dear Mrs Varrie - Thank you for your memory, and for jogging mine, an old classmate in our first school years. Mrs Varrie was an impressive woman that I remember as a proud, straight backed person with great integrity. Linksfield School had a number of very special people that we had the privilege to meet.

For me, Mr and Mrs Chosack were undaunting champions for all with interests and talents outside of the South African basic icon of sports... Their musical events and the Otherways Club showed me that there could be a place in the world for us too.

Young Mr Matthews with his touching faith and earnest struggles to encourage us to do our best. I believe that his passion was intensely personal and real.

And principal Mr Puxley's endeavors to instill strong ethical values in each of us. "Waste not, want not..." has echoed throughout my life, now almost 50 years later.

And my friends, with warm hearts and wonderful gifts. Unfortunately I don't have any contact with other classmates any more since I moved to Sweden over 30 years ago. I am so grateful to have access to your shining example as a leading star. Yours must be the pinnacle of our achievements.

I feel very blessed to have shared time and space with you and all these people. Thank you all.
